SEGRO and Decathlon complete a new project in Gliwice

SEGRO, Europe's leading owner-manager and developer of industrial property, has completed a modern distribution centre for Decathlon within SEGRO Business Park Gliwice. The facility, delivered after 10 months of construction, is now fully operational. The new distribution centre has been developed to support the Decathlon's growth particularly in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Decathlon, a sporting goods chain store offering professional sports equipment, accessories and sportswear, has been present in Poland since 2001. Currently the company owns 26 stores in Poland and has over 1500 employees. Soon as many as 40 Decathlon stores will be supplied from the new distribution centre, where up to 200 people will find their employment.

Since 2007, Decathlon has been a tenant at Tulipan Park Gliwice, which is the first and currently the biggest SEGRO project in Silesia. After four years of effective cooperation with SEGRO, Decathalon decided to enlarge its warehouse premises. SEGRO proved to be a credible and trustworthy business partner. The company won a tender for Decathlon's new investment. This success confirms the high quality of SEGRO services and is also a next step in mutual cooperation between the two companies.

The new distribution centre for Decathlon is a built-to-suit stand alone facility designed according to the individual requirements of the tenant. The facility comprises 31 700 sq m of modern business space and has the expansion potential of another 10 000 sq m. The new investment is compliant with very high standards of safety and is equipped with many advanced facilities. The biggest innovation is a 450-meter-long conveyor belt, which significantly improves the process of receiving, sorting and shipping the goods to the customers. The storage system is designed for nearly 14,000 pallets and 46,000 packages. The new centre provides a safe and convenient working environment for the employees. A great advantage is a multifunctional sports field located adjacent to the facility.

The first SEGRO investment in Gliwice was at Tulipan Park, which currently provides 140 000 sq m of space dedicated for warehousing and light production. One of the key advantages of Tulipan Park is its strategic location adjacent to the A4 motorway, only 15 km from the A1 and A4 motorway junction. The total site area is 48 ha, which allows for additional 50,000 sq m to be developed in future.

The second phase of the developer's expansion in the region was SEGRO Business Park Gliwice. The investment comprises two BTS facilities located within the area of Katowice Special Economic Zone, Subzone Gliwice. The first one is a stand alone building designed according to the specific requirement of the client - HL Display. The second one is the new distribution centre delivered for Decathlon at the beginning of August 2012. Both investments are advantageously located next to the national road no. 88 leading directly to A4 motorway. Currently SEGROs portfolio in Gliwice comprises 185,000 sq m of modern warehouse and production space.
